Conga Stocking Stuffers – Powerful, Free Add-ons that Should be on Every Conga Admin’s List

One of my favorite parts of my family’s Christmas celebration is receiving our stockings. Presents are passed out and opened one person at a time, but since my mom buys stocking stuffers in triplicate, my siblings and I are permitted to tear into our stocking simultaneously in a completely unrefined manner that reminds me of Christmas morning as a kid. We race to the bottom of the stocking to find an assortment of fun and useful little gifts – candy, gift cards and (the less fun) socks, now a family joke for their unrelenting appearance in every stocking I can remember.

So to celebrate the holidays let me give you some Conga stocking stuffers – two optional, free add-ons to Conga Composer – that are incredibly useful to take your merging to the next level.

Conga QuickMerge

Conga QuickMerge functions as a launch pad for Composer and Conga Mail Merge solutions. It’s a short cut that gives you granular control over your merges.

Favorite use cases:

  1. Organization-wide reporting – Many of our most common Composer use cases are intended to be run for a single record at a time. For example, you produce an invoice for one Account record at a time. However, throughout the course of business we often have to produce documents that require data from many records, i.e. sales pipeline activity reports or service team case volume reports. Using a Conga QuickMerge link gives you a convenient place to launch Composer solutions that are not related to one particular record.
  2. One-click mass mailings – Since Conga Mail Merge operates on a one report to one template basis, as you create more letters you must also build out more reports. As you use Mail Merge for more and more mass mailings, it can be difficult to keep track of which report pairs with which template and even more difficult to explain to the user in charge of sending your letters.

QuickMerge helps you make sure you’re always pairing the correct report and template, by enabling you to predefine the template, records to merge and activity logging options of a solution. Essentially, launching a Mail Merge solution using QuickMerge allows the user to skip straight to the last step in the Mail Merge wizard.

Conga Query Manager

Conga Query Manager is the socks of this stocking. Working with queries may not be exciting, but you’ll appreciate this little app on a cold night when you need to use data in your document that is difficult or impossible to retrieve with a Salesforce report. Composer’s answer to this problem is to retrieve data using SOQL queries, and Conga Query Manager is a handy tool to help you build and store SOQL queries for use in your templates.

Favorite use case: Some organizations limit their user’s permissions to export reports for security purposes. Using Conga Queries, Composer users can still generate their account plans, executive briefs, contracts and other documents with all the data populated in the document as if they had used a report.

To learn more about Conga Query Manager read the Conga Query Manager Installation & Configuration Guide.

Happy holidays everyone! We’d love to hear your favorite use cases for QuickMerge and Query Manager in the comments.
